doTERRA’s Ginger Essential Oil and Digestive System

DoTERRA Ginger Essential Oil, newly acquired from Madagascar, is extracted from the fresh rhizome of the ginger plant. Rhizome is the underground stalk of a plant that grows out of the root system. It has a spicy and aromatic cooking spice and is commonly used in Asian recipes.

Chemistry of Ginger Essential Oil

Ginger essential oil has a chemical group called sesquiterpenes. These are also found in calming oils like Ylang Ylang and Myrrh oil. The sesquiterpenes in ginger oil are called zingiberene and sesquiphellandrene. They help with digestion if taken internally and can calm emotions when used for aromatherapy.

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup turbinado sugar
  • ½ cup doTERRA Fractionated Coconut Oil
  • 10 drops Lime oil
  • 5 drops Ginger oil 

Instructions      

  1. Combine brown sugar, turbinado sugar, Fractionated Coconut Oil, and essential oil in a bowl.
  2. Stir until well combined.
  3. Store in an air-tight container.
  4. To use, apply a small amount to hands and scrub for 30 seconds, or until sugar dissolves. Rinse with warm water and pat dry.
