Tame your Tummy with Essential Oils

We all know that digestion is one of the most important parts of nutrition, and a compromised digestive function can result in multiple discomforts– constipation and irritable bowels, to name a few.

Aside from supporting the digestive system by consuming a healthy diet, drinking plenty of water, and changing lifestyle, there are also natural remedies that provide comfort for digestive distress. If you are looking for something to provide internal cleansing with digestive benefits, here is a list of my go-to support for proper digestion.

What you need to help with Constipation

Check out these supplements and oils that help with proper digestive function and elimination! Try them out for two to three months, and then use them as needed.

DigestZen TerraZyme®. This supplement supports and enhances the body’s natural digestive processes. It uses sodium lauryl sulfate–free HPMC vegetable capsules for those seeking a vegetarian-friendly supplement. DigestZen TerraZyme® promotes gastrointestinal comfort and food tolerance.

Tip: Take two to three capsules with meals.

Clary Sage and Petitgrain. Clary Sage is not only known for its benefits to the skin. Due to its linalool and linalyl acetate content, it is one of the most relaxing oils. Applying Clary Sage oil to the needed area and rubbing for a soothing massage will help promote calming feelings and bring relief. While Petitgrain oil is known to support a healthy immune system when used internally, its relaxing properties can also be beneficial for a massage– a perfect way to ease tense feelings.

Tip: Rub two to three drops over the stomach in a clockwise motion three times daily.

Additional Support

Bergamot. Not only is Bergamot known to help ease tension or manage high-stress levels, but this oil is also perfect for internal cleansing and helping keep a healthy gut from a toxic load. Added on Earl Grey tea, a go-to drink that supports the digestion process, this combination has natural anti-inflammatory qualities that can help relieve constipation.

Tip: Add a few drops to a regular cup of Earl Grey tea and work your way up from there to keep the oil flavor from being too overwhelming.

Cassia. This oil is most beneficial when used internally due to its ability to promote healthy digestion. Like Bergamot, you can take this internally for digestive cleansing. Cassia is also a perfect oil to help your body from seasonal threats. Check out more tips against seasonal threats here!

Tip: Combine one to two drops of Cassia oil with one to two drops of Lemon oil in a Veggie Capsule and take with water for digestive help.

What you need to help with Irritable bowels

Try these tips if you are looking to relieve symptoms of gas, bloating, and diarrhea for three to six months.

DigestZen® Oil (Digestive Blend). This essential oil is a blend of Peppermint, Ginger, Cardamom, Caraway, Anise, Coriander, and Fennel essential oils. These oils are known for their supportive gastrointestinal benefits. DigestZen® Oil promotes healthy digestive function and relief from stomach upset. This oil can also be taken internally to ease symptoms of occasional digestive disturbance, such as bloating, gas, and indigestion.

Tip: Drink one to two drops with water, or rub over the stomach to ease discomfort.

Cardamom and Turmeric. While cardamom is best-known as a flavorful spice, the essential oil from its seeds has other uses beyond the kitchen. The calming and soothing properties of this oil can help ease digestion. Not only does it enhance the food flavor, it can also help maintain overall gastrointestinal health. Turmeric is also a widely used spice that offers daily antioxidant support when used internally as an essential oil. Here is a bonus recipe using Turmeric for healthy digestion: DIY Golden Milk with Ginger and Turmeric Essential Oils.

Tip: Add a drop each in water to soothe discomfort, as needed.

Additional Support

Fennel. This essential oil has anethole as its chemical constituent, which provides digestive support. When taken internally, Fennel not only helps with digestion but also helps maintain a healthy immune system. The natural sweetness of this oil is also useful for avoiding unhealthy sweets and sugar.

Tip: Add one to two drops in a veggie capsule, or put a drop in water to curb sweet tooth cravings.

Caraway. This essential oil provides gastrointestinal support when ingested. Caraway is also one of the ingredients of DigestZen that naturally aids the body in the digestion of food and helps reduce bloating and gas.

Tip: Add to a beverage or take it in a veggie capsule, or use as a cooking oil starting with a toothpick’s amount.
